Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026
Overview
WeatherCue is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe weather apps should not need to know everything about you to be useful. This policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Data We Collect
Location Data. WeatherCue requests your device location to provide weather insights for where you are. Location data is sent directly to the weather data provider (QWeather) to fetch forecasts. We do not store your location on our servers, share it with third parties, or use it for advertising.
Weather Data. We retrieve weather information from QWeather's API. This data is processed on your device to generate weather insights and is cached locally for widget updates. We do not transmit this data elsewhere.
App Settings. Your preferences (theme, language, tips style, refresh interval, temperature unit) are stored locally on your device using iOS App Groups storage. This data never leaves your device.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- No personal information. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any identifying information.
- No accounts or sign-ups. WeatherCue has no user accounts. There is nothing to register, log into, or delete.
- No analytics or tracking. We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or any form of user behavior tracking.
- No sharing or selling. We do not share, sell, or transfer any data to third parties for any purpose.
Widgets
WeatherCue's home screen and lock screen widgets display weather insights without requiring you to open the app. Widgets refresh periodically by fetching updated weather data from QWeather. Widget data is shared between the main app and widget extension using iOS App Groups, which is secure and local to your device only.
Third-Party Services
QWeather (和风天气). We use QWeather's API to obtain weather forecasts, hourly data, and precipitation forecasts. When requesting weather data, your device's location coordinates are sent to QWeather. Their privacy policy is available at https://www.qweather.com/en/privacy.html
Apple Maps. For reverse geocoding (converting coordinates to street names), we use Apple's built-in MapKit framework. This request goes to Apple's servers under their privacy policy.
We do not use any other third-party services, SDKs, or APIs.
Data Retention
All data is stored locally on your device. Weather cache is automatically refreshed and old data is overwritten. There is no server-side data storage. If you delete the app, all data is permanently removed.
Your Rights
- Access: All your data is on your device. You can review it anytime through the app's settings.
- Deletion: Deleting the app removes all data permanently. There is no server-side data to request deletion of.
- No profiling: We do not create user profiles or make decisions about you.
Children's Privacy
WeatherCue does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Since we collect no personal information at all, our service is safe for users of any age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
